My letter to my best friends regarding WMD and Iraq...

The quote that comes to mind is, ‘All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing’ – Edmund Burke.

Receiving this book from me means that I think highly of your ability to think independently and to evaluate information objectively. There are some facts that I’ve discovered through close examination of the information regarding Iraq and the foreign policy which you may not have been able to find.

My background: I’ve got 6 ½ years in the Navy in a field directly related to military intelligence and another 4 years as a licensed Private Investigator – sort of like having a Ph.D in intelligence evaluation. I evaluate information in a specific way that works best and I want to share my methods with you. There is a media war for hearts and minds going on right now in America and
I hope you are a truth seeker and not an adherent to dogmatic political rhetoric.

Executive Summary of the key points documented with the extra pages:

1) Fact: There is an Iraqi WMD threat which is real and has not been discussed in any debates or Republican / Democratic National Convention coverage - the threat of a RDD or Dirty Bomb. The Dirty Bomb book details in a very nonpolitical method, the facts behind the threat. There has been a ‘documentary’ released Oct. 2004 in the UK that downplays this threat but of all the concerns during CBR (Chem-Bio-Radiological Warfare) training in the Navy the ‘R’ was the one that had all of us in the military scared s---less. There is no other term to describe it because once plutonium or uranium particles get into your system it’s a matter of ‘when’ you’ll die or get cancer. This works neatly into the standard for warfare in which a wounded enemy is better than a dead one because it will take the efforts of 4 to 5 people to help a wounded enemy recover, vs. only burying the dead.

2) Fact: Iraq had tons of material that could have been used to build an RDD. See the pages that confirm this. I’ve looked into the Parliament testimony and it confirms both facts. So, yes, there was raw material in Iraq that could have been used as an RDD. Best case the book will allow you to understand why nuclear material doesn’t have to be a bomb to be dangerous, worst case you will need it one day to figure out how to survive should your area ever be targeted. Just a note – my wife Stacey was so horrified by the subject that she put the book down around page 50 and refused to read any more of the details. Probably because she realizes that we live 12 miles from the busiest border crossing in the world, and have 7 Navy/Marine Corps bases within 5 miles. Oh, that and the fact that California is #2 behind New York as a target according to Homeland Defense.

3) I have enclosed a BS detection method that really works – the Standard Intel Evaluation Code. It’s simple; A through F, 1 to 6. A-1 being the best, F-6 the worst. See if Fahrenheit 9/11 stands up to it before you use it to consider your choice for President. Also, check your preferred candidate’s statements concerning Iraq and the Terrorist Connection against it.

4) New Facts: Oil for food scandal material. This should whet your appetite for the truth. There is a theory that of the $11 billion floating around in this 'UN / Saddam incestuous circumstance' some of it may link to Al Qua’eda financiers as middlemen. On top of this, it should also address the fallacy that first, continued sanctions would have been better, and second, that the rest of the world hates us with Bush as the main reason to blame. Please examine this and think seriously about how effective the UN can be if it has been co-opted. Really – Kofi Annan’s son? The head of the Oil-for-food program? It really can’t get much higher and this story has just begun to break.

5) False: Saddam never financed terrorism, and never had terrorist ties? Here’s the truth; suicide bomber’s families have been getting paid by Saddam for years. I can’t print and send enough documentation to you to tell you how untrue this is, particularly covered by BBC along with every other news network stateside. Too bad it hasn’t been splashed out there as much as Abu Graib – odd that…

6) Telling me that Fah. 9/11 changed your life and I should see it doesn’t work, I’m sorry. I’ve heard and read far too much from Michael Moore and most of my close friends who buy into his story. I found at least six problems with Fah. 9/11, and even more with the ‘f911 Teacher’s Guide’ – the f911 script is available online for free. I won’t spend a dime on the movie but bring the movie over if you have it, as long as you’ll sit through the rebuttal movie of my choice, I think that would be a fair exchange of ideas.

7) Telling me how much the rest of the world hates us really doesn’t bug me. Particularly since the UN scandal has hit. What do you do when they will vote against you no matter what is said and done? European press hated Reagan also. He ended the Cold War after 8 years in office. Or do you feel that the Cold War was a good thing? Kerry voted against Reagan’s agenda and was for arms reduction – not for bankrupting the USSR. I wonder what Bush could accomplish given 8 years. The rest of the world opinion – sorry, we can work on that convenience when we’re finished with the Axis of Evil. Right now we’re busy mopping up terrorists since they’re dumb enough to swarm into Iraq.

I may be wrong – please straighten me out about the kinder, gentler approach working when those same countries are making Billions in rearming sanctioned countries like Iraq. Help me here, please. Did you know that 300,000 Shiite Muslims and Kurds were wiped out by Saddam Hussein? I personally had a ringside seat to some of that action in 1992 where entire villages were massacred and burned. I have my personal flight log book to show I was there and three of my fellow squadron aircrewmen who worked in our carrier’s Intel department preparing the reports for the UN. Not to mention the sanctions-related deaths that could have been prevented, I’d say nearly half a million Iraqis are dead because of Hussein.

8) Fact: Three of the six ‘Axis of Evil’ countries are currently neutralized. Afghanistan we all agreed upon as a nation. Iraq is in progress & Saddam is gone from power. Libya saw the writing in the sand and jumped onboard without a shot fired, because Quaddafi realized that Bush was more similar to Reagan than his father. Iran and North Korea are in multilateral negotiations about WMD and their policies. I consider Syria as all that’s left – as a ‘maybe’. So three of six unstable minority ruled regimes are no longer pursuing WMD and we now have a base of operations in Iraq that helps our negotiations with Iran and Syria. That’s called a good start in my opinion. Korea – I was there in 1994, we can talk about that later if you choose.

9) Facts recapped: At the time of invasion, Saddam has a network for financing and training terrorists. He has the raw materials for constructing RDDs. He has used WMDs in the past – against his own people. He is not intending to comply with sanctions fully in order to look strong to his people and region, yet he is also complying enough to continue his reign. He has maintained the training and facilities for construction of WMD as soon as the sanctions come down. He has already co-opted THREE of the FIVE permanent UN Security Council nations (Russia, France, China), so in Saddam’s opinion there won’t be any action and best case, sanctions could actually be lifted since he can now blackmail those member countries...

…and all of this information is and was available to the President. I’m going to make a leap of faith here, but I personally would make the same exact decision if I knew all of these facts were true, regardless of the current WMD status. Every intel agency in the world thought WMDs would be found – Putin even warned Bush that Saddam would use those WMDs.

I may seem passionate about this: I am passionate about the truth. I logically evaluate reported facts and too often I’ve found fallacy in reporting within the past 18 months.

Too bad the rest of the public can’t find out what the inside story is – what the combat troops know. Professional military people hate the thought of war, but if it must be done, they want faith in their leadership that it won’t be done halfway, that there won’t be half measures, and that they won’t be forgotten or left behind as a political expediency.

This may explain why at last survey 68% of military personnel had faith in Bush as a leader, with only 24% for Kerry. They know the truth – I think it’s your duty as a citizen to look past the rhetoric and propaganda and evaluate information from both sides as equally as you can.
By the way, NPR reported this poll statistic on Oct. 16th as ‘career military vs. enlisted’ however the ‘Raw Data’ says otherwise.

Maybe it’s a different poll… Because the one I looked at was by the Univ. of Penn – and all the raw data says the military and their families trust Bush more than Kerry nearly three to one. Maybe these families know something the rest of the US doesn’t, since they’re the ones on the front lines?

Let me know if you want the raw data – I’ve got it ready to send or look at http://www.naes04.org/ – I find it interesting how NPR reported that though – ‘career military’. Must have been another poll they were looking at; they wouldn’t misreport something this important, would they?
Our forces in Iraq are currently keeping the Islamic terrorists occupied while we do our thing here at home. They deserve your consideration and it will get worse before it gets better. They know that the war against terrorism is not limited to just Al Qua’eda, and that it is a war that is real, and can be lost. It can also be won, and they’re doing their jobs – your job is to look at all the evidence before voting and changing policy makers.

When you read or hear something, please take the time to look beyond that emotionally charged sound bite into the ‘Raw Data’. Think of your research as giving back to the defenders of our country – you’re giving them your respect in believing in their chain of command’s decision making ability. Get with the program – don’t be a pawn for anyone’s agenda.

I welcome all debate on this subject of right/wrong war. Please, prove me wrong and tell me there were no radiological materials in Iraq, tell me that Saddam had no terrorist ties, and that sanctions would have worked even with the UN corruption, and that even though ¾ of our troops think Bush is better as a leader, that Iraq could have been handled differently, etc.
Just back up your claims with facts that stand the Intel Evaluation and I’ll be happy to chat. Any rhetoric or anything dogmatic need not be included.

-- Too many people do nothing. They are standing idly by, they are mere spectators. They sit on the sidelines instead of actively participating and working for the good. If good wins, they join in the celebration though they did nothing to produce the victory. If evil wins, they will complain long and loud though their own apathy helped produce the undesirable result.[Wayne Greeson]
